Natalia Alejandro, M.D., F.A.C.O.G., spoke with Telemundo 31 in a live interview about the risks pregnant women face during the COVID-19 pandemic, after the CDC added pregnant women to its list of individuals who face the potential for serious illness from the virus.

Dr. Alejandro explained the key for pregnant women is to wear a protective mask and to practice social distancing when they are outside their homes to reduce the risk of exposure to the virus. Taking these measures seriously is important to protect the woman and her baby.

“Babies are protected while they are in the uterus, but after they are born they can get exposed to the virus. So pregnant women have to avoid being exposed as much as they can.”

The Advanced Obstetrics and Gynecology team is available to answer any questions pregnant women have regarding COVID-19 and ways to protect themselves and their babies.
